WK39: More Xbox Cuts, Marathon Evolves & Hardware Gets Busy
Xbox cuts continue, Marathon maps out its future, two major horror titles arrive and Logitech, SteelSeries and Razer push new gaming hardware.
Microsoft confirmed another 268 role eliminations across Halo Studios, other Xbox studios and central functions. The cuts continue a significant restructuring of Microsoft's gaming business and raise more questions about the shape of its future first party pipeline.
Bungie has outlined the next phase for Marathon, with progression and reward changes coming in October. December's Symbiosis update will add the game's first permanent PvE experience, expand the Perimeter and introduce a new shell, social space and onboarding improvements. Another major evolution is already planned for March.
Control Resonant launched on September 24 for PS5, Xbox Series and PC, placing Dylan Faden in the lead role. On the same day, Silent Hill: Townfall also arrived on PS5 and PC, taking the series into a full length first person format.
Logitech used G PLAY 2026 to announce 15 new products. Among the headline releases are the PRO X3 SUPERSTRIKE, priced at AU$299.95, and the PRO X2 RAPID, priced at AU$399.95.
The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct delivered 36 game and DLC announcements, including 13 world premieres. There is plenty to unpack, although the stronger reveals are likely more useful as individual stories than as one giant recap.
SteelSeries expanded the Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 range with new Cyber and Steel editions at US$239.99. Australian pricing has not yet been verified.
Razer is also bringing back the Mako name. The smaller Mako X launches October 6 for AU$169.95, while the larger Mako is due in December at US$149.99. Australian pricing for the larger model remains unconfirmed.
Finally, EA Sports FC 27 launched worldwide on September 25. This year's additions include The Grounds, a new social football mode, alongside the lighter FC 27 Lite experience.
WISKY NOTESXbox is trimming the cellar, Bungie is changing the recipe and peripheral brands are adding more bottles to an already crowded shelf. Somewhere in the middle, we are still expected to find time to actually play the games.
